At my internship they work with plates of wood, to ship this carefully there is a plate of particle board on the  bottom and top. They throw this away when it’s delivered, felt like a waste. The wood is very weak and hard to work with, so I looked at it’s best features and made a chair of it, which I built up in layers, so you can make them as long as you want. ( only made one chair the others are renders)
