Taking notes

Since launching Version 2 in March 2016, we have been observing the global development of Precious Plastic, taking notes. From day one we’ve been totally amazed by the incredible response of the community, that both shared massively on different media reaching every corner of the planet (apparently North Korea too ✌️) and built hundreds of machines across continents.

All throughout we started collecting feed backs, comments, experiences, and opinions from all of you to understand where we did a good job and where we made mistakes. This gave us a great overview of where the project stands and what needs to be done to move forward.

We’ve learned a lot from this process, on many levels. We’ve discovered many hidden or unknown aspects of the project that opened our eyes about key points that can help scale the project even further. We’ve scrutinized the machines, platforms, forums, website, design and interaction between people to understand how to improve Precious Plastic ecosystem. We’ve also gathered comments, aspirations, ideas, challenges, goals, problems, solutions, alternative ways to build machines, cheaper ways to source parts, possible new business ideas, difficulties to make products, raise funds or collaborate with one other at a local level.

This initial research informed our strategic decisions when drawing the plan for Precious Plastic version 3.

Filter the chaos

Since the beginning of 2017, we’ve been trying put all of this collected knowledge at work to craft the new plan for Precious Plastic. As you can imagine there was a lot to sort out. Many different ideas, goals, needs, perspectives and priorities.

We’ve been working day and night to really understand what could be the most effective direction for Precious Plastic to move forward in order to empower an even greater number of people to start recycling. Extended series of discussions and talks to come up with a plan that would embrace and take into account all the different topics on the table. We had to let go on some points but we hope you are as excited as we are with the new plan. You can read all the details here.

Your part

We finally have a great plan that we’re happy with, and a solid strategy to get there. Now we need every single one of you to help make this happen.

Over the years we’ve put an incredible amount of resources, time and money into the project to get it where it stands today while keeping everything free and open source.

We now call it onto our community, friends, colleagues, partners, strangers and everyone affected by, and causing, plastic pollution to help us out. Together we can find a solution to this urgent problem.

Next

We crafted a new website for you to see how to help and contribute first hand to the project. We needed a way to make it possible for everyone to help out, no matter what background or wallet size. We then created a Money 💰 & People 💪 campaign where people can help in different ways, code in your spare time from your laptop or donate extra cash from your birthday.

Support

Support Precious Plastic and the new version in three ways:
1. Single donations
2. Monthly donations (Patreon is awesome!)
3. Donate your time and skills to bring version 3 to life

Hooray Plastic Recycling!

Thank you community for being so truly awesome 🙌
