Šimon Horna and Lukáš Adámek from Stará Turá, a small town western Slovakia, founded @umelohmotne and begun their Precious Plastic journey.

Šimon, a video content creator was originally inspired by Precious Plastic videos he found online last year. He was wondering if he could bring Precious Plastic in his country. He wanted to start a recycling business with his colleagues but they couldn’t make it happen for various reasons. Then one day, over a good couple of beers and a moment of serendipity with good old friend Lukáš they started Umelohmotné. 😀

They first worked on sourcing the laser cut parts and build the shredder. Then, they were looking for motor and oven. By now, they are already collecting plastic waste from the community and selling their recycled plastic products on the market!!!

They started their project in early 2016. Lukáš is more the technical guy enjoying to work on the machines while Šimon prefers to deal with electricity and create new colour schemes for their products! Such a great combo!

“When we sell our products on markets, we talk with people, we show them our molds and shredded plastic pieces.”

Umelohmotné is mainly self-funded with some support from friends and the communities they’re working with. Their goal is to teach people to recycle more by showing them “the world behind the yellow bin”.

They create beautiful recycled products such as flower pots, bowls, wall clocks and bow ties. And they also make holder cups for your toothbrushes!

The major challenges that they often face is plastic getting stuck n the mold.
“Sometimes we have to bang the product down form the mold with a hammer.”

Their stories are featured on TV show at national Slovak TV channel!
They also have a chance to speak to Andrej Kiska, the president of Slovak Republic and gave him a bow tie and wall clock.
Definitely a great way to highlight the plastic waste issue and rise awareness to the big parties. 🙂
